Hello, and welcome to my new website! Thank you for stopping by, and I hope that you’ll stick around to check out all of the cool things I plan to bring to this site. It’ll be the starting platform for my career as a fiction writer.
I started seriously writing a few years ago when I started college, and I mostly wrote poems. However, I attempted to write a prose poem that turned into a piece of flash-fiction, and despite failing to actually make a poem, the classmates I shared it with thought it was a lot of fun to read. I kept refining the piece, and eventually it spurred a spinoff short story for my next class, and that piece evolved into the novel I’m writing now.
I’ve always wanted to become a writer, but it wasn’t until recently that I realized I had some potential. I’m currently working on my first novel, which will be a series, and it’s about a third of the way finished. I have a list of stories I want to write, and I’m excited to see where they lead.
Plans for the website:
This site, as I said, will be the platform for my future career as a fiction writer. By that I mean I’ll be posting lore for my novels, spin-off stories featuring characters from the novels, and blog posts updating viewers on the progress of the novels themselves. I envision this site being a place for my readers to see an expanded view of the novels, beyond just the novels. I’ve always admired how some of my favorite authors have a ton of content on their sites about the books they have written. It’s like an expanded universe, and I hope to bring something like that to this site.
I also plan to post standalone short-stories on this site. They’ll serve as additional content for my readers, and as interesting reads for those who’re just passing by the website. Some will be quirky, others more serious, and some might just be flash fiction pieces that I think up randomly.
Another cool idea I want to pursue is a website-exclusive short-story series. This would be a series I create that will be updated bi-weekly, and would contain a persistent world/character that we follow. I think this would add a neat, unique element to the website and could attract a lot of people to view the site and hopefully discover a story and world they enjoy experiencing.
Looking towards the future:
The site will be launched when I have some content available to viewers. It wouldn’t be any fun to have a website to attract viewers and readers if there isn’t anything to view or read, would it? The short story series will probably start within a week or two after the launch, and the blog would start a week before that. This would ensure I keep the site updated regularly, and that new content would come out periodically.
The novel, as I mentioned, is about a third of the way complete. My goal has been, and continues to be, to have the first draft finished by the end of the summer (in this case, I’m calling that the beginning of August). That way I can work on editing the draft, and then submit the piece before December. It’s a hefty goal, and it will be hard to complete, but I believe I can pull it off. After submitting the novel, I would begin to work on the sequel immediately. I have the overarching plot done, it’s just a matter of fleshing it out and writing the books. It seems like the series will be three books long, but that could change.
I have more ideas for novels and short-stories, so I’m very excited to get moving. For the website’s content, I think that this will be the rough outline for a month’s worth of content:
- Week 1 – Blog post
- Week 2 – Blog post / Series entry
- Week 3 – Blog post / Standalone story, or a spin-off from a novel
- Week 4 – Blog post / Series entry
If you’re a writer too, you can probably imagine this is a lot to do in a month (alongside a novel), but I’m hoping to be able to pull this off. It would make for a fun site to follow, and I believe this would be a lot of fun as well. During the schedule I would also be posting lore to give some insight to what I’ve been writing for my novel.
I’m still a developing writer, so I’m also looking to find writing jobs and possibly some contract/freelance work. Becoming a stable/fed/housed author full-time is tough, and I also have ambitions in writing beyond novels. If you want more info, check out the ‘About’ page.
All in all, I have great hopes for this site! I hope you enjoy what I post, and I hope that you’ll keep coming back, and maybe even invite your friends to check it out. Thank you for reading this post, and good luck to you.
