For a single moment, I saw it.
A falling diamond, crystal white
With four blue wings sparkling.
When it came, there was a whistle,
And it hit the ground with a splash.
Didn’t you see it?
It was a slight sprite that pierced
The dim black curtain ahead of me,
Swept away the drowsy mist
Rolling from behind the billowing
Lead cloth. The air was so thick
Maybe you didn’t see it.
Perhaps the vision was a simple wish
From a dulled head, excuses to forget
My life is slowly covered by that curtain,
Slowly, unfolded from the waist to my eyes.
Or, if I’m lucky, it was inspiration.
My own little muse that sang for
What laid beyond that dim curtain.
I know, at least, I saw it.
