It’s been one hell of a month, let me tell you. Yesterday, NaNoWriMo 2017 officially ended. For those of you who don’t know, it’s a yearly event focused on inspiring writers to finish a novel, or 50,000 words, within the month of November. While I’ve already written my draft, I used the event as a way to revise my draft. I nearly accomplished it, too. I’ve reached 68,000 words, and I only have the last three chapters left to revise!
Honestly, I’m exhausted, excited, and ecstatic that I’ve made it so far. The novel will probably end up being upwards of 90,000 words, which is crazy. I never though it’d reach that high, and I feel invigorated for the next book. I’ve been considering how it will go, and I have a good idea on what’ll happen in the sequel. As I’ve mentioned before, the book is the first in a series, and I’m not sure how long the series will last. Right now, the goal is to finish revising the book by the beginning of next week, then sending it to an editor. I’ll revise it once more afterward, and then find a cover. Hopefully, I can publish the book at the beginning of January, but otherwise I’ll be publishing it before I start next my next semester, so the 14th of January. Then begins the second book!
The thing giving me the most trouble is coming up with titles for my books. Originally, it was called The Squire’s Quest, but then my character ended up being less of a squire, and more of a guardian. So, I called it The Guardian’s Quest, but now that seems too generic. I’ve been brainstorming new titles, so hopefully I’ll come up with something by the time I need a cover.
I’ve also been working hard on world-building, which is quickly turning into one of my favorite parts! I’ve dubbed the world Izwalt (pron. Is-vault), and I’m working on maps and information for the rest of the world. I’ll be revealing the map of the second continent soon!
Right now, I’m running a kind of challenge for my Facebook page. Once it reaches 150 likes, I’m going to post an excerpt from my novel! It’ll be a lot of fun, and I’m hoping to get the word out quickly so I can share what I’ve been working on.
I’ll be keeping this blog up to date a lot better this month, so you can expect a post at least once a week. Between schoolwork, the holidays, and revising my novel, I haven’t had much free time. This next week will be even busier, but hopefully I will be able to finish revising and announce the end of draft two soon.
Thank you all for your support, and keep your eyes peeled for new content soon!
